4 Typical Workout Excuses (And How to Push Through Anyway)
Listen babes, we get it. Sometimes working out is just the last thing you want to do. But we all know exercising comes with tons of mental and physical health benefits. So when that little voice inside your head starts coming up with excuses for why you can’t get in a good sweat session, here’s how to fight back.
Excuse #1: I don’t have time
We’ve all said this one before. But even a short and sweet 20-minute workout can be enough to get your blood pumping. A little bit of something is better than nothing.
Another tip to keep you from falling into this excuse - make time. If you’ve got goals to meet, then you have to make working out a priority. This might mean skipping happy hour on occasion, or even, waking up earlier.
Excuse #2: I’m too tired
Speaking of waking up earlier, that probably means you need to go to bed earlier too. Don’t just lay in bed endlessly scrolling. Instead, turn all screens off at least 30 minutes before bed, so your mind can start to wind down. Finish your day with some relaxation, like a hot bath, a good book, or a cup of soothing chamomile tea.
Not to mention, a good workout regime will actually help you with feeling too tired. Not only does exercise wear you out and help you fall asleep, you’ll also have more energy to get through your day.
Excuse #3: I don’t know what to do
If you don’t already have a workout program you love, it can be hard to know where to start. One nice thing that has happened because of the pandemic is there are even more free exercise videos and resources available online than ever before, so you definitely don’t have to come up with a program all on your own.
Try out a variety of different workouts to see what you enjoy and what helps you feel good. From yoga, to pilates, HIIT, running, barre and more, the options are almost endless. Plus, we often share workout routines on our blog!
Excuse #4: Working out is boring
Believe it or not, working out can be fun. If doing your taxes sounds more exciting than pushing through another workout routine, then you are doing the wrong exercises. It’s time to branch out and find something that you can actually enjoy while getting in a good sweat. And that may mean getting a little creative.
Maybe try a group exercise class, or find an engaging personal trainer. Get some people together to play volleyball or ultimate frisbee once a week. Take a dance class, or workout with a friend. Finding a workout you enjoy will not only help you stay motivated, but will also help you push yourself more.
It’s also a good idea to switch things up. Maybe do cardio one day, and yoga the next. This will keep your workouts from feeling stale.
