Spring has officially sprung. With the sun shining, the cool breeze blowing and everything starting to bloom, there’s no better way to refresh your workout routine than to move it outside! 

But if you are stuck in the same workout rut, here are some outdoor exercise ideas to get you thinking outside the box gym.

Go for a walk or a run

The obvious choice, but no less of a good option. Running is an incredible cardio workout for burning calories and reducing stress. Or if you need low impact, a good long walk helps stretch your legs and get your muscles moving.

Sunrise yoga

Yoga works your posture, flexibility and strength while also allowing for some mindfulness and quiet meditation. Morning yoga is great for starting your day with energy and focus, but if you aren’t a morning person, whenever yoga works too.

HIIT / Circuit Training

One of the advantages of circuit training is it really can be done anywhere. All you need is a fitness mat and maybe a set of dumbbells, which should be easy to locate if you’ve been working out at home all this time.

Cycling

Get off that Peloton and onto a real bike. Like running, cycling is good cardio exercise, but it’s also killer for shaping those thighs and booty. Bicycles were almost impossible to find at the beginning of the pandemic, but should be more available to you now!

Hiking

Hiking is another low-impact exercise, but with all the elevation changes you’ll typically get more of a leg workout than you would from going on a walk around your neighborhood. Not to mention, hitting those hiking trails will get you out of the city and into nature, which is always a good break for your mental health too.

Kayaking / Paddle Boarding

If you are lucky enough to live near a body of water, check out your options for renting a kayak or paddle board. Both will give your arms and shoulders a good workout, as well as your abs and back. 

Group Sports

Get your COVID pod together for a little friendly competition. Volleyball, soccer, ultimate frisbee, it doesn’t matter what, just as long as you are moving. You’ll have so much fun, you won’t even realize you are working out.
